ABOUT US
YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CAN‘T FORCE IT TO DRINK...
You can direct your clients to resources and information, but that doesn’t mean they’ll apply them…
You can give advice, but you can’t ensure people will follow it…
You can explain your business vision to your team, but you can’t make them adhere to the necessary processes to achieve that vision.
THE HEALTH AND FITNESS INDUSTRY IS A BEHAVIOUR CHANGE INDUSTRY...
Facilitating change is an integral part of any health and fitness service or business…
But what did your qualification teach you about changing human behaviour?
Maybe you were presented with a paragraph about motivational interviewing…
...which, let’s face it, was probably more confusing than insightful.
And you were introduced to the chocolate tea-pot that is the Trans Theoretical Model, AKA "the stages of change"...
That's it.
AS A RESULT, MANY HEALTH AND FITNESS PROFESSIONALS WHO START OUT EAGER TO CHANGE LIVES FIND THEMSELVES IN A SPOT OF BOTHER.
YOUR PROGRAMME DESIGN SKILLS COULD BE TOP NOTCH...
But if your client doesn’t even look at their programme, no fancy periodisation model is going to give them results.
YOU CAN GIVE NUTRITION ADVICE UNTIL YOU’RE BLUE IN THE FACE...
But that doesn’t mean that your clients will apply it
(even though they’ll continue to ask for your advice)...
YOU CAN TRY EVERY DIETARY APPROACH UNDER THE SUN...
From portion guides to example meal plans; from mindful eating and hunger monitoring to calorie counting...
STILL YOU MAY FIND YOUR CLIENTS STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN NEW BEHAVIOURS IN THE LONG TERM.
The immediate impact is seen in clients’ results: weight loss plateaus, inconsistent attendance, or even a decision to stop working towards their goals altogether.
MOREOVER, AS A SMALL GYM OWNER, THE IMPACT EXTENDS BEYOND THE CLIENTS TO YOUR TEAM...
Motivating your staff, creating a cohesive team culture, or implementing new business strategies or processes - all of which require behaviour change - can be a struggle without the necessary tools and understanding.
This could lead to staff turnover, reduced productivity, and a potential decline in client satisfaction - and you don’t need us to tell you how that impacts your bottom line.
IN SHORT...
...the omission of vital knowledge and crucial skills from health and fitness qualifications often leads to limitations in:
THE SADDEST PART
OF ALL THIS?
Competent, ethical and hard-working health and fitness professionals like you end up questioning your place in the industry...
BUT LET US TELL YOU WHY NOBODY BELONGS IN THIS INDUSTRY MORE THAN PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
You could be letting your struggling clients go because “they’re just not ready to change”…
Or laying sole blame for poor retention on your marketing efforts for attracting clients who “aren’t coachable”.
You could be sacking the staff who, despite the promise you saw in them initially, cannot seem to embody your values, or follow the necessary procedures to achieve your business vision or goals…
But you aren’t doing ANY of those things.
(Even if you HAVE considered it from time to time - and that's ok, it’s not a thought crime)
Instead, you seek answers - just as you have with everything else that you came to realise your course failed to provide.
Because despite what you sometimes tell yourself, you still believe that the purpose you were promised when you entered the industry exists. You still want to change lives.
So, yes you belong.
In fact, you’re precisely what the health and fitness industry needs.

I FELT LIKE AN IMPOSTER...
I quickly realised my course provider gave me the maths to help people (i.e. learn how to work out macros or how much weight a person should lose) but not any behaviour change support.
I felt like an imposter - at a loss when people didn't lose weight, even when I could work out the calories they should be on.
After my first session with Alex, I realised the complexities of helping people improve their diets were far more than just telling them what to eat.
I liked his ethos behind using certain strategies with the mixture of science and compassion for people's lives.
All of what I learned has helped me become a more thoughtful coach, I don't assume a one-sized approach suits all my clients and if I'd relied on my course, I am sure that's what I would've done.
I would recommend Alex's services to other PTs and gym owners - whenever I see a post on Instagram that reminds me of stuff from my course, I want to message them to get in touch with Alex and learn more about nutrition/coaching!
